Aventon vs Juiced: Comparing Aventon Aventure to Juiced RipCurrent

Aventon vs Juiced: Comparing Aventon Aventure to Juiced RipCurrent

July 7, 2023

Here at Aventon, we believe that transparency and cold, hard facts are key when it comes down to shopping around for an electric bike. For this reason, we’re increasing the cadence for our comparison articles, where we stack one of our ebikes up against one of its competitors. If you’ve read our blogs comparing the Aventure vs. RadRover and Aventure vs. Himiway Cruiser, you know exactly what we’re talking about.

This week, we’re putting the spotlight on all-terrain, fat tire ebikes, comparing the Aventon Aventure to the Juiced RipCurrent. This comparison piece will review each bike in four sections, comparing both exterior and interior features. First, we’ll give an overview of the “stats” of each bike, similar to what you’ll find online or at a local bike shop. The three sections following will dive deep into the anatomy and physiology of each ebike, focusing, in detail, on their three core elements: electrical, mechanical, and physical. Let’s get started!

*At the time of writing this article, the Juiced RipCurrent ebike model is out of stock in all three sizes as per their website.

These ebikes are very similar when we solely look at the main statistics. Readers who are looking for power will notice that the RipCurrent has a slightly larger battery and higher peak motor performance, while other readers may also notice that while this is true, having a larger battery doesn’t affect the comparative range nor the top speed.

Those looking for a bit more versatility in sizing (and colors which we’ll get to!) will notice that the Aventure offers 5 sizes in total (Find more size availability at your local dealer) in comparison to RipCurrent’s 3. The Aventure also includes a Step-through frame option for those needing to get onto an ebike easier, to which Ripcurrent is only available as a step over ebike. Ebikes are an investment, after all, and if they don’t physically fit or suit you, you aren’t going to ride them.

Given that there are slight statistical differences between these bikes, someone without brand loyalty might be more willing to choose one or the other based on appearance alone (we know we’d choose the one that has the fun colors!). But when you’re spending upwards of $2,000 on anything, we know how important it is to dive a little deeper than what lies just on the outside.

Electrical Differences

Electric bikes wouldn’t be what they are today without their electric elements. Hence, which is probably why you’re finding yourself reading this article, curious to read just how the electrical components of the Aventure compare to those of RipCurrent.

Aventure RipCurrent Comments

Battery

48V 15Ah (720Wh)

52V 15Ah (780Wh)

The size of the battery on both ebikes are relatively similar, with RipCurrent’s battery being only 8% bigger than that of the Aventure. But bigger does not always mean better. Given that both bikes provide the same range, an 8% larger battery does not translate into the real-world benefits you might think.

Motor

750W

Brushless Rear Hub Motor

750W

Rear Gear Hub Motor

Not too much to discuss here as both ebikes perform at 750W when sustained. One important factor to note is that although RipCurrent can reach higher peak power, this also means that it’ll be using more battery power to maintain its peak performance.

Pedal Assist

5 Levels of PAS

5 Levels of PAS

Both models have the same top speed and levels of pedal assist, which gives riders a versatile riding experience allowing them to fine-tune their level of pedal assist to match their preference.

Charger

48V 3 Amp

52V 2 Amp

When it comes to ebike battery charging, higher Amps are more important than a higher voltage system. The Aventure charges its battery at a rate of 3 Amps, and since it has a slightly smaller battery capacity, it’ll be full of charge sooner than RipCurrent’s battery. That means less time waiting and more time adventuring!

Display

Full Color Display with mobile app integration

LCD Display

The Aventure’s fully colored and backlit LCD display allows riders to view multiple stats mid-ride and at the touch of a button, such as battery life left, distance traveled, speed, and pedal assist level. Compatible with the Aventon mobile app, riders can also sync their Apple or Android smartphone to their ebike to view more riding data, achievements history, and connect with the Aventon community! The LCD Display on RipCurrent also allows riders to view their ebike and ride metrics, however it is not smartphone compatible. Both ebike displays have a power button to turn on the front lights.

Lights

Front headlight with app compatibility

Integrated rear lights with brake light functionality

Head Light

Having integrated front and rear lights simply mean you never have to worry about not being seen, or your lights giving out on you mid-ride. Aventure has seamlessly integrated lights so you also don’t have to worry about exposed wiring. Both ebikes have an integrated head light, which also makes it easier to mount a front rack or basket.

Only Aventure has the rear brake light functionality which activates anytime the brake levers are pulled. It’s the perfect sleek addition for evening and nighttime riders.

USB Charger

Yes

Optional Phone Mount with Charger Add-On

With Aventure, you also never have to worry about your smartphone running out of juice. A hidden, built-in USB slot on the Display allows riders to plug in their device and get power when they need it most!

Mechanical Differences

Now that we’ve dove into the electric parts of both the Aventure and RipCurrent, it’s time to look more into the bike part. After all, these products are electric bikes!

Aventure RipCurrent Comments

Brakes

Hydraulic Disc

(with safety cut off sensor)

Hydraulic Disc

Both bikes come with hydraulic disc brakes, which deliver utmost braking power without sacrificing comfort. Hydraulic disc brakes have a quick and smooth stopping power, which is an important feature to consider when in the market to purchase an ebike, such as these two, that can both accelerate quickly and reach top speeds of 28 MPH.

Gearing

8

9

Simply put, RipCurrent having 9 gears gives riders an ever so slightly greater range than Aventure’s 8. Having an extra gears means more flexibility with speed and the ability to transition between gears slightly smoother.

Suspension Fork

Spring Coil Fork

80mm of travel with lockout

Coil Fork

75mm of travel with lockout

Both ebikes are equipped with a front suspension fork with lockout functions. Having a lockout function allows the rider to fine-tune their fork to match the terrain they’re riding in, either stiffening it or making it more fluid to better absorb bumps as needed. While mechanically, there is little difference between both suspension forks, it’s worth noting that the Aventon Aventure has 6% more travel than Juiced’s RipCurrent. Meaning, riders have slightly more travel room to absorb bumps before “bottoming out.” In other words, before you zero out your suspension and are likely greeted with an unappreciated jolt.

Physical Differences

Last and certainly not least, it’s time to analyze more the fun stuff: the physical aspects. Comparing Aventure and RipCurrent physically side-by-side, some of the features we discuss below can not only affect your riding experience but also how you look and feel when you’re out and about adventuring. Besides, when you look and feel the part, you become a more confident rider!

Frame

Standard and Step-Through

Standard Step Over

While the standard step over bike frame is a traditional favorite for a reason, it just doesn’t work for everyone. That’s why having a step-through model not only makes Aventure more appealing to a wider demographic, but also more accessible. Those who are unable to ride a traditional ebike frame, or prefer not to, won’t have to worry about not finding a fat tire ebike that suits them!

Sizes

5

Standard Frame: Small, Medium, Large

Step- Through Frame: S/M and M/L

(Check local dealers for availability)

3

Standard Frame: Medium, Large, X-Large

When you’re investing roughly $2,000 into an ebike, it should fit and feel right. The Aventure Step-through comes in 2 sizes to suit most adults between 4'11" - 6'2" while the traditional Aventure is available in 3 sizes for adults 5'1" - 6'4". The RipCurrent is available in 3 sizes for adults 5'4" - 6'0"+. Having more size options available for a wider range of people will ensure that each person will find their (almost) perfect fit.

Colors

4 Colors

(3 standard Frame, 3 Step-Through Frame)

(Check with local dealers for availability)

1

Having color options is equally as important, as not everyone likes the same color! Aventure is available in black, camoflauge green, electric red, and socal sand to accommodate different color preferences!

Weight

73lbs

70lbs

Weight is an important factor when considering an ebike. There’s a fine line between wanting it to feel sturdy, but not overbearing. While Aventure is 3lbs heavier than RipCurrent, both ebikes are as sturdy as they come, so no adventure is off-limits!

Carrying Capacity

400lb (incl. rider)

275lb (incl. rider)

A higher maximum carry capacity simply means Aventure can carry more. Heavier riders don’t have to worry about pushing the limits on Aventure, while cargo carriers can rest easy knowing they have plenty of room to load up their ebike, whether they’re transporting work materials, their furry friends, or their child(ren) in a trailer!

Integrated Battery

Yes

No

Integrated batteries are slowly becoming an industry standard, and Aventure being among the first fat tire ebikes to have an integrated battery is just the cherry on top of its features. Not only does an integrated battery have a sleeker look, but it can also disguise the fact that you’re riding (or locking!) an item of high value, possibly making theft more difficult.

Tires

26 x 4” Fat Tire

Puncture Resistant

26 x 4” Fat Tire

Puncture Resistant

Both ebikes have the same tire specs and are equipped with puncture resistant technology. Having puncture resistant tires, especially on an all-terrain ebike such as Aventure and RipCurrent, is a must; Riders won’t have to worry about sudden changes in terrain and whether their ebike is equipped to ride through it!

Racks

Front and Rear

Rear

Both of these ebikes have the ability to connect a rear rack while Aventure is the only ebike to also have a front rack option. This means more space to haul more cargo!

Fenders

Front and Rear Included

No / Not Available*

What’s an all-terrain ebike without fenders? We felt that front and rear fenders were necessary to include with Aventure as added protection against the elements.

Aventon vs. Juiced: Wrapping Up

After our thorough analysis, the Aventure and RipCurrent weigh in neck to neck. Despite the points raised throughout this comparison, some riders who are still looking for utmost “power” without factoring the real-world performance will still likely lean one way over the other. While other riders who see past specifications on paper will realize that the additional options and features that come equipped with Aventure far surpass those of RipCurrent. Not to mention, the fact that one is readily available to purchase to get a jump start on your adventuring while the other has a vague estimate of when it’ll return in stock.

What makes Aventure stand out against this component is its sheer ingenuity. Something which we take utmost pride in here at Aventon. Whether that be its seamlessly integrated components, such as the battery made with LG cells, fully integrated lights wtih brake lights, immensely faster charger, or the state of the art Color Display with smartphone capabilities.

Its other features, like versatility in frame styles, bike sizes, color options, and included accessories, and 2-year warranty are just a few of the additional cherries on top! So you tell us, which of these two ebikes is better suited for your needs?

We’d love to hear your analyses!

Looked at both bikes and compared spec’s and read reviews. Loved the looks of both bikes, but the integrated battery and the So Cal color won me over.
First ride and everyone was asking what kind of Ebike is that and where did you get it and of course how much. Aventon had a sale plus Gov. discount under $1700.00

My Aventure is FANTASTIC!! I have single track mountain biked for years and before that off road motorcycling was also a passion of mine. At 82 years old my body couldn’t really do the rough dirt trails anymore so I started going on the paved “bike paths”….BORING! Now I’m back on the fun dirt trails riding my Aventure, which is in my view, the best combination of dirt biking and mountain biking.
